A smile can help diffuse a difficult situation. “Hi, I’m sorry we have messed up, let me fix that for you!” with a warm friendly smile can diffuse a guest complaint and turn a negative into a positive experience.

But don’t fake that smile, a put-on smile can have the opposite effect. You need to be genuine, warm, empathic and positive.
